MFM Flagship Pitch Competition

MFM is excited to present its inaugural Martlet Fund Flagship Pitch Competition ("FPC"), now open to all Montreal university students. Designed to mirror real-world investment processes, the FPC offers participants the opportunity to develop and present a high-conviction investment thesis in front of leading industry professionals. The competition is intended to challenge participants' analytical rigor, investment judgment, and communication skills in a professional setting, while providing meaningful feedback from industry practitioners.

Competition Overview


Format & Requirements

Teams will be tasked with producing a comprehensive stock pitch — either long or short — on a North American company with a market capitalization of $4 billion or less. Any investment strategy is permitted, including but not limited to fundamental long/short, event-driven, or thematic approaches.

Team Composition

Teams may consist of 2–3 members. All Montreal university students are eligible to participate, regardless of program or institution.

Investment Strategies

Any strategy is permitted — fundamental long/short, event-driven, thematic, or other approaches. Your thesis must cover a North American company with a market cap of $4B or less.

Presentation Format

Each team will have 20 minutes to present their investment thesis, followed by a 10-minute Q&A session with the judging panel.

Deck Requirements

Pitch decks must not exceed 20 slides, excluding any appendices. Submit in both PDF and PowerPoint formats alongside your Excel financial model and team resumes.

The competition will unfold across three key stages. Mark these dates and plan your submission accordingly — late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

Competition Process


Detailed Event Breakdown

March 22nd, 2026 — Submission Deadline

All submission materials must be sent to mail@martletfundmcgill.ca by March 22, 2026, 11:59 PM EST. Teams must submit their pitch deck (in both PDF and PowerPoint formats), Excel financial model, one PDF containing all team members' resumes, and the $25 participation fee. Pitch decks must not exceed 20 slides, excluding any appendices. Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

March 27th, 2026 — Finalist Notification

Finalist teams will be selected through an internal review process. The top 4–6 teams will be notified via email and invited to present their investment thesis live in front of the judging panel.

April 1st, 2026 — Pitch Day

Selected finalist teams will present their investment thesis in person to a panel of senior investment professionals from leading Canadian firms.

Each team will have 20 minutes to present, followed by a 10-minute Q&A session with the judging panel. Winners will be announced at the end of the event.

All of the following documents must be included in your submission email to mail@martletfundmcgill.ca. The email subject line and all file names must follow the naming convention outlined in the Submission Guidelines section below.

  • Pitch deck in PDF and PowerPoint formats (maximum 20 slides, excluding appendices)
  • Excel financial model with detailed assumptions, projections, and valuation analysis
  • One PDF containing all team members' resumes

All submission materials must be sent to mail@martletfundmcgill.ca by March 22, 2026, 11:59 PM EST. Please read all guidelines carefully before submitting — late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

Pay the Application Fee

$25 per Team

A participation fee of $25 per team is required and must be paid through the MFM payment portal before your submission will be reviewed.

Register Your Team

Complete the application form to register your team for the competition. This form collects basic information about your team.

Pitch Deck

Submit in both PDF and PowerPoint formats. Maximum 20 slides, excluding appendices.

Must include detailed assumptions, projections, and valuation analysis supporting your thesis.

One PDF containing all team members' resumes compiled into a single document.
